Welcome to Air Combat Tactics. Here you will find many basic flight training videos and descriptions for the aircraft types available on Rise of Flight. These Lessons provide a quick introduction for getting to know your aircraft.

Introduction to Flight Instruments and Gauges of a particular aircraft and its characteristic flight behavior.

Energy Fighting (Boom n Zoom)

Video demonstrating how to Energy fight in Rise of Flight using Boom n Zoom techniques.

Boom n Zoom is a form of energy fighting. Where potential energy is your altitude. Kinetic energy is your speed. You can trade one for the over in combat, but overall you will lose energy.
Energy Fighting (Rope-A-Dope)

Video explaining and demonstrating the Rope-A-Dope maneuver in Rise of Flight. Energy fighting in this lesson is performed in a Se5e.

Tricking a bandit into wasting his energy while you conserve yours. use when enemy persuing from rear aspects. You have an energy advantage. if you have a better performing aircraft.
Head on passes - Frontal Attack


Video demonstrating correct Frontal Attacks in Head-on situations as well as illustrating the failings in Head-on situations that result in collisions.

Aspects of Head On Failure: Nose pointed on target with no yaw. Unwilling to brake or brakes too late. Wanting that last shot.
Head on passes - Turning Attack


Video demonstrating how to perform a turning attack maneuver in a head on pass.

This Air Combat Tactics are performed in a Fokker Dr1.

Use the Turning Attack only if your aircraft turns faster then your opponent.
How to bounce a target


Video demonstrates how to perform two bounces. First against an all-round superior aircraft, second against an aircraft with superior speed.

In accordance with 3 main creteria from Dicta Boelcke. You must be above your opponent. Must shoot at close range. Ideally attack from the sun.
2 v 1 - Defensive Split


In this video the Air Combat Tactic "Defensive Split" is demonstrated in a 2 v 1 situation in Rise of Flight.

When an enemy aircraft is chasing 2 friendly aircraft. This particular tactics has been performed with Se5e in this video lesson.
2 v 1 - Drag and Bag


Video explaining and demonstrating the "Drag and Bag" tactic in Rise of Flight. Is used to sandwich your opponent between wingmen.


This tactic has been performed with a Se5e in this video lesson.
2 v 1 - Fighting Wing


The fighting wing is a formation where the leader is on the offensive whilst the Wingman follows in close formation to cover him.


Fighting Wing doctrine from the perspective of the wingman in the formation.
2 v 1 - Loose Deuce


Flying with a wingman using the Loose Deuce doctrine. Performed in a Se5e.

A fighting doctrine similar to Double Attack where one fighter is Free and the over Engaged. However both fighters are offensive, resulting in Free and Engaged states interchanging
2 v 2 - Engagement Analysis LD DA


Analysis and explanation of what comprises a 2 v 2 engagement in Rise of Flight.


Fighting doctrine is state of fkux through engagement. Lack of any applied doctrine results in two separate 1 v 1 Engegament. Two 1 v 1 s equals no mutual support
